Summary of Benefits in the ULGA Collective Agreement

Wages

  • Fixed Appointments:
    • Upon ratification: 2% increase (non-retroactive)
    • May 1, 2025: +2%
    • May 1, 2026: +1.75%
    • May 1, 2027: +2.75%
  • Casual Appointments (< Half Appointment):
    • Hourly (includes 4% vacation pay):
      • $28.56 at ratification
      • $29.13 on May 1, 2025
      • $34.97 on May 1, 2026
      • $35.58 on May 1, 2027
  • Research Assistants (funded by faculty grants):
    • Same hourly rates as above, starting Jan 16, 2025

Leave Entitlements

  • Sick Leave:
    • 10 working days per appointment
    • No requirement to make up missed hours
  • Other Leaves:
    • Family
    • Parental
    • Adoption
    • Bereavement
    • Compassionate

Hours of Work

  • Maximum of 112 hours per TA or NTA appointment

Health and Safety

  • Improved provisions:
    • Workplace inspections will occur if a member raises a concern

Training

  • All job-related training counts as paid time

Parking

  • 75 parking permits reserved for ULGA members who don’t get a spot in the campus parking lottery
    (Members should still enter the lottery—the cost is the same)

Health Care:

Graduate students have a healthcare benefits plan. The plan provides coverage for:

  • Prescription drugs
  • Dental care
  • Vision care
  • Extended health services (e.g., physiotherapy, massage, mental health services)
  • Travel coverage
  • Accident coverage
